UC Browser Unveils Open Add-on Platform for Android to Achieve Infinity

2013-08-12 From: UCWeb Inc.

UCWeb, a global leading provider of mobile internet software and services, has launched the 9.2 version of UC Browser for Android, unveiling an open add-on platform to achieve an INFINITY of personalized browsing experiences to its more than 400 million users worldwide. It will also encourage more third party developers to create a wide array of customized feature add-ons for UC Browser, bringing more exciting opportunities to ecosystem partners.

What’s New for Users

The biggest refinement of this popular browser is the addition of an add-on system, allowing third parties to develop add-ons that work in the browser, giving the browser more features or giving the user more interactive abilities under certain usage scenarios. Currently, V9.2 comes with the following pre-loaded add ons:

Facebook Photo Uploader:
Many Facebook users have been frustrated when uploading multiple photos to Facebook.  This add-on brings users an easier way to upload multiple photos in one step. It also enables push notifications, thus users will not miss messages from their friends once the add-on is installed and running smoothly.
Save Web Pages as PDF
Many UC Browser users have expressed a desire to save high quality webpages, hence UCWeb has developed "Save Web Page as PDF" on its add-on system. With this add-on, users can easily save webpages to PDF files to preserve their favorite content in high quality format and transfer them with ease. These files can be quickly accessed through the browser's Download Management system.
File Unzip:
Data from UC Browser shows that downloading RAR or ZIP files from WAP websites without the tools to extract them is a common complaint from users. With the Unzip add-on, users can open their downloaded files in the download manager easily.
Webpage Translator:
Taking advantage of the Google Translate and Bing, this add-on supports more than 70 languages to be translated, allowing users to break through language barriers with both whole page translation and individual word translation.
More innovative add-ons can be found on the add-on panel by pressing the “+” button.
Exciting News for Developers
The add-on platform enables a bi-direction communication between UC Browser and the Android system’s services. In this environment, data sharing is much easier, and the UC Browser API has been standardized, making it more accessible to third party developers via SDK. Programs created by developers can be used in all operating scenarios of UC Browser.
This add-on platform, which is expected to be officially open to third party developers soon, is a sincere attempt at balancing the infinite demand for multiple functions in a mobile browser and the ideal of keeping it simple. It deserves of much praise for introducing real value to the whole ecosystem.
"The Add-on platform of UC Browser for Android is only UCWeb's first step in its vision of providing mobile users with a world filled with 'Infinite Possibilities'", said Xiaopeng He, Chief Product Officer and Co-founder of UCWeb. "We'd like to work with the participants along the value chain, and promote open exchanges between both parties, so as to create the best browsing experience for our users."
