Much of UC Browser’s growth has come from large developing new markets outside its home turf of China. Deep localization and strong partnerships with local content providers has boosted downloads and engagement with the browser. In India, it holds a leading 41.2% market share, as it does in Pakistan with 29.1% market share. In both Indonesia and Russia, UC Browser recently soared to the top ranking browser at local Google Play store respectively by downloads.

According to the UC Browser website, the browser holds over 200 patents. Some of the standout features include data compression technology, which can reduce data costs up to 85%, making surfing the web cheaper and pre-load, which loads a web page before you even view it.

“The recent milestone not only puts us in the hundred million DAU app club and evidences our user engagement, but also motivates us to carry out our mission to connect more people in the world to mobile Internet through constant innovation,” said Mr. Yu Yongfu, President of Alibaba UC Mobile Business Group.

UC Browser is a product of UC Web, a company fully acquired by Alibaba Group in June last year, to form Alibaba UC Mobile Business group. Although financial terms of the deal were not disclosed, it was billed as China’s biggest Internet deal ever.
