Bangalore, November 16, 2016: UCWeb, an Alibaba Mobile Business Group company today announced that their flagship product, UC Browser has crossed 100 Million Monthly Active Users (MAU) in India. The mobile browser has had a 57% market share in India (as per Stat Counter) and with an increase of 25% of MAUs in 2016 itself (reaching the 80 million MAU mark in June 2016), UC Browser is one of the largest mobile browsers in India.

Speaking at the Global Mobile Internet Conference (GMIC) in Bengaluru, Kenny Ye, General Manager of Overseas Business, Alibaba Mobile Business Group spoke about the milestone achieved by UCWeb saying, “India has been an incredible market for UCWeb. In the 5 years that we have been here, UC Browser has transformed from being a mobile browser for the masses to being a gateway for the mobile internet making it one of the largest mobile browsers in India. By crossing 100 million MAUs, UCWeb envisions itself as powerful as Google and Facebook and bring the global mobile internet to an era of ‘GUF’ (Google, UCWeb, Facebook).”

With over 462 million internet users and 371 million mobile internet users, according to IAMAI reports, a 100 million MAUs makes UC Browser ideal for the first time internet user. With the changing mobile internet landscape, UCWeb has adopted a strategy of movement from being an internet tool to a content distribution platform by engaging and aggregating entertainment based content on all its portals – UC Browser, 9Apps and UC News.

Adding about the company’s strategy in India, Kenny said, “We see entertainment as being the biggest thing in India right now and we want to give our users exactly what they want. Our recent partnership with Colors Tv and Fox Studios’ latest Bollywood movie – Ae Dil Hai Mushkil keeps us in sync with our users and integrate entertainment with our mobile services thus digitising the entertainment sector in India. We aim to create UCWeb as the ideal mobile service for entertainment based content distribution be it movie promotions, book launches or TV Shows related content.”

UCWeb has been the Trending Partner for popular shows on Colors Tv – Jhalak Dikhla Ja and Bigg Boss with the former page receiving over 7 million views on UC Browser. The exclusive launch of Ae Dil Hai Mushkil ’s popular song ‘The Breakup Song’ on UC Browser also received 6 million viewers. UCWeb has also been setting news trends under its We Media program where People get an opportunity to create, to write, share thoughts and engage with their followers on UC News and UC Browser.

UCWeb also had a successful partnership with Chetan Bhagat for the launch of his latest bestseller ‘One Indian Girl’. Chetan Bhagat wrote exclusive blog posts on UC News and had a successful Live chat on UC Browser. The event was viewed by over 15 lakh users, and attracted over 1.8 crore users to the campaign page in 3 days alone (Sept 28-30, 2016). UC News attracted a readership of 5 lakh for Chetan’s bonus chapter of the book and helped add over 58 thousand fans to his account.
